Tips: "Title keyword" searches

Close this window

Use the Title keyword search when you're not sure of the exact title. This is a good way to find a specific item, or items on a topic.

Example
You want to find a book with the words crazy horse in the title.

  1. In the search box, type:   crazy horse
  2. Click on Title keyword(s) if it's not already selected.
  3. Click on the Search button.

Pathfinder retrieves all items in the catalog that have the word crazy and the word horse anywhere in the title. For example, your list will include In the Spirit of Crazy Horse, by Peter Mathiessen.

Wildcard searching

To find multiple forms of a word, type at least three letters, then an asterisk  *  immediately after the last letter. Pathfinder reads the  *  as a wildcard truncation symbol, and will search for words that begin with the letters you type. For example, searching cosmolog* retrieves cosmology, cosmologies, cosmological, etc. For more options, see Truncation and Plurals.

With and Near

If your title contains the word with or near, leave it out of your keyword search or you may get unexpected results. If your keyword search retrieves too many items, try a Title begins with... search where these words can be used normally. With and near have special functions in Pathfinder keyword searches. For more information, see Order and Closeness (proximity).

Finding articles

Pathfinder does not list individual journal articles; to find these, use article databases instead.
