Tips: "Author (last name first)" searches

Use the Author (last name first) search to find books, videos, manuscripts and other items by a particular author. This covers all individuals with an authorship role, including co-authors, translators, illustrators, music composers, etc.

Example
You want to find books by Maxine Hong Kingston.

1. In the search box, type the last name, a comma, a space, and enough of the first name to be distinctive:    kingston, maxine
2. Click on Author (last name first).
3. Click on the Search button.

Pathfinder retrieves all items in the catalog whose authors' names begin with kingston, maxine.

No need to truncate

In this search, you do not need to place an asterisk  *  after the last word. Pathfinder will still retrieve any names beginning the words you type.

Note for experienced users

The Author (last name first) search was formerly called Personal Author phrase; the results are the same.
