Tips: "Author-Organization keyword" searches

Close this window

Use the Author-Organization keyword search when the author you are looking for is not a person, but an organization, government agency, company or other group.

Examples

  • Sierra Club
  • University of California
  • United States. Congress. House. Committee on Foreign Affairs.
  • International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union
  • TWA, Inc.

It searches for words anywhere in the name, so you do not need to enter the exact, complete formal name of the organization.

Example

  1. In the search box, type:    sierra club
  2. Click on Author-Organization keyword(s).
  3. Click on the Search button.

Pathfinder retrieves items produced by the Sierra Club, including various Sierra Club committees, local chapters, etc.

With and Near

If the organization's name contains the word with or near, leave it out of your keyword search or you may get unexpected results. If your keyword search retrieves too many items, choose the Advanced Search option and try an Author-Organization begins with... search where these words can be used normally. With and near have special functions in Pathfinder keyword searches. For more information, see Order & Closeness (proximity).

Note for experienced users

The Author-Organization keyword search was formerly called Corporate Author keyword; the results are the same.
