Logging On

Close this window

No special logon is needed to search Pathfinder or to save or e-mail results. However, current UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff can log on to use these special services:

  • NRLF Request Service
  • Stanford Request Service
  • Baker Document Delivery Service

To take advantage of these services, click on the UCB Logon link on the Pathfinder home page, or the Choose Database link on most screens. You may then log on, either with your CalNet ID or with your library patron number (printed on your photo ID card).

Beginning on August 25, 2005 we will phase out the use of Social Security numbers (SSN) as part of the logon process in Pathfinder. We are making this change to protect the privacy of our users.

  • For most users, including UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff, these logons will require a PIN (Personal Identification Number) which will be your month and date of birth, in the format MMDD. For example:
    • born on May 20: 0520
    • born on December 3: 1203
The change from SSN to PIN may take several days to complete. If you have problems logging on with one method, try the other.
  • Some users, including Visiting Scholars, some graduate students and postdocs, and members of the public who have a library borrower's card, already have individual PINs that were set up with the Library Privileges Desk. If you are in this category, your logon will not change, unless you contact us at the Privileges Desk (see below) and ask for a new PIN.
  • This change does not affect those who log on using CalNet. Your CalNet ID and passphrase will be the same as they are now.

If you encounter any problems with this change, or if you are unsure of what your PIN should be, please contact the Privileges Desk (1st floor, Doe Library; 510-642-3403; privdesk@library.berkeley.edu).
