Availability Display

Close this window

In Pathfinder search results, the Availability button takes you to a display which shows:

  • Author
  • Title
  • Locations for that item in the UC Berkeley Libraries - for more information, click on the Location(s) link
  • Call number that determines how the item is arranged on the shelf
  • Current status of each copy

For books, the display indicates each copy. For multi-volume items, such as journals, magazines, newspapers, and annuals, it indicates the range of volumes the library owns.

If the status is Not checked out, the item is probably on the shelf (though we can't guarantee this). To find it, note both the library location and the call number. Most of our collections are arranged according to the Library of Congress Classification system, where letters and numbers correspond to subject fields and subtopics, so that materials are arranged on the shelves by subject.

If the status is CHECKED OUT, the item is on loan to another borrower and due back on the date indicated. UC Berkeley borrowers may ask at any library checkout desk to have such items recalled.

Items marked Storage or Shelved at NRLF are at the Northern Regional Library Facility in Richmond. UC Berkeley borrowers may request these items by clicking on the NRLF button and filling out a web form, or in person at any library checkout desk.
